Check the weight and dimensions of the goods, including any containers or fixtures carried on the platform. The load should fit securely and be distributed according to the model’s requirements. Consider how items will be transferred onto and off the trolley, particularly when working alongside benches, shelving or production equipment.
Compare the trolley’s minimum and maximum platform heights with the surfaces you need to load or unload. Single- and double-scissor designs provide different lifting ranges, so select by the model’s specifications and your working requirements.
Wheel size, castor material and floor conditions affect how easily a loaded trolley can be moved. Assess the travel route for thresholds, uneven surfaces, tight corners and restricted aisles. Check the trolley’s overall dimensions, turning space and brake arrangement, as well as clearance around the operator. For outdoor or uneven routes, confirm that the selected model is designed for those conditions.
Manual scissor lift trolleys commonly use a foot pump to operate the hydraulic lifting mechanism. Electrically powered lifting reduces the pumping effort required and may suit more frequent height adjustments.
Powered lifting does not necessarily include powered travel. Check whether the trolley still needs to be pushed manually, along with its charging and operating requirements.

These terms describe different aspects of the lifting system. Hydraulic refers to the mechanism that raises the platform; manual or electric describes how that mechanism is powered. A manual hydraulic trolley typically uses a foot pump, while an electric model may use a motor-driven hydraulic pump. Electric lifting does not automatically mean the trolley has powered travel.
Choose a trolley with a rated capacity suitable for the full load, including goods, containers and any fixtures on the platform. Capacity must be considered alongside platform size and load distribution, particularly for bulky or uneven loads. Check the individual model’s specifications and operating instructions rather than selecting on weight alone.
Suitability depends on the model, its wheels and the operating conditions. A trolley designed for smooth indoor floors may not suit rough surfaces, thresholds or outdoor use. Check the manufacturer’s requirements and assess your travel route, including gradients and braking needs. An all-terrain designation does not mean a trolley is suitable for every surface or slope.
Do not assume that a raised platform is suitable for travel. Follow the model’s instructions for travelling height, load position and movement. Where required, lower the platform before moving and use the brakes when positioning goods at a workstation. Confirm these requirements when selecting equipment for your handling process.
