Geelong Grammar School is one of the largest private co-educational schools in Australia – with 4 unique campuses across Geelong, Melbourne and regional Victoria.

The main campus comprises 230 hectares of open space and facilities. Keeping these grounds in pristine condition takes plenty of work, which the facilities team manage with the help of utility task vehicles (UTVs).

As their current fleet was ageing, it was high time for an upgrade. Sitecraft were engaged to supply two modern vehicles to support their work.

Choosing an industry-leading UTV

Before we provide solutions to a customer, we take the time to understand their needs. A large part of this journey is education – helping every customer understand how the industry has changed and what that means for the standard of equipment.

“We start from the basics with an assessment of their needs. Once we understand the end-goal for their equipment, we provide our recommendations and let the customer make a final decision,” explains Karan Singh, Business Development Manager for Electric Utility Vehicles.

This was a key part of the process for Geelong Grammar, whose equipment hadn’t been upgraded in over a decade. As Karan says, “There had been a lot of advancement in the industry over time, so they didn’t know what was possible.

Following an in-depth consultation, we selected the Turfman Cargo 450 as the ideal equipment to manage the diverse tasks and expansive school grounds.

This commercially-rated UTV handles loads of up to 500kg with ease. Reaching speeds of 30km/h; it helps maximise efficiency, while remaining safe around people.

Beyond the basics, this UTV is equipped with industry-leading features, such as:

Investing in the safety of your people

The Turfman range is equipped with a 150 AMP lithium battery that has 3x the capacity of a regular lead acid battery.

Despite their superior performance, we recognise some customers have concerns about the potential safety risks associated with lithium batteries.

Our team are always happy to discuss the safety profile for any of our products. In this case, Karan provided a detailed overview of how the batteries worked and their quality construction, which included safety certifications.

“What we see with lithium batteries that makes them unsafe is people retrofitting them or doing DIY projects. When we educate the customer on those practices in the market, we help them recognise what the right thing to do is,” says Karan.
