For more than 60 years, Wangarang Industries has provided gainful employment for people with disabilities throughout Orange, NSW.
Recently, they opened a purpose-built facility to provide recycling services as part of the NSW Return and Earn scheme. They collect cans and bottles from commercial premises, such as the local hospital and TAFE, which are then transported back to their bulk facility for processing.
Sitecraft were engaged by Wangarang Industries CEO, Kevin McGuire, to supply a bin lifting solution that helps ensure the safety of every employee.
Transferring large wheelie bins full of metal cans and glass bottles is no easy task; which is why finding the right equipment makes all the difference.
“We were looking for a solution on how we could safely get the containers onto our table and into the machine. And we did a bit of a search around and we found these bin lifters,” explains Kevin.
Sitecraft supplied the Wangarang Industries team with a battery-operated Versatip Bin Tipper.
These Australian-made units have the capacity to lift bins anywhere from 80-360 litres. Designed to minimise the risks of manual handling, they also offer multiple opportunities for customisation to suit any industry.
As Materials Handling Specialist, Daniel Chesterfield, explains, “We’ve done solid guards, doorless units, custom chutes, pendant controls, stainless steel – almost anything you can think of.”
Even though the tipper supplied to Wangarang Industries is one of our off-the-shelf products, it’s a solution that our customer has been thoroughly impressed with.
“These machines are so safe and easy to use. Our people with disabilities are operating them all day. The safety of our people is key, and that’s why we’ve got these machines,” says Kevin.
When you contact our team out for support, you’re also provided with diagnostics and advice. For example, when one of our techs visited the Wangarang Industries facility for a battery replacement – they found the real issue was growing demand.
With the wheelie bin tippers in near-constant operation, the batteries required frequent charging, which in turn was impacting performance.
Our tech was on-site to advise; providing education to the staff on ideal operation and a recommendation to the leadership team to upgrade to a hard-wired unit.
While a new piece of equipment was not entirely expected, CEO Kevin McGuire had high praise for our fast and effective service:
“The responsiveness from the sales staff and the techs has just been outstanding…I asked for a quote on a new machine this week, and it was in my inbox that afternoon,” says Kevin.
“I would highly recommend [Sitecraft] to anybody that was looking for any lifting equipment at all.”
It’s a sentiment that the Sitecraft team shares, as Daniel mentions, “It’s been great working with a customer like Kevin who is fantastic in his levels of feedback. It’s a growing industry and one we are proud to be part of.”
